Axewomen remain undefeated with win over X-Women

Antigonish, NS – The U SPORTS No. 2 ranked Acadia Axewomen remain undefeated on the AUS season with a convincing 87-52 victory over the StFX X-Women Saturday night at the StFX Oland Centre.

Led by Subway player of the game Paloma Anderson (Wolfville, NS) who scored 30 points on the evening, the Axewomen got out to a 15-8 lead after the first quarter and never looked back.

Anderson was sharp from the three-point line, draining three treys on the night while teammate Haley McDonald (Port Williams, NS) netted four treys for the Axewomen as she had 14 total points.

Alexandra Berry (Yarmouth, NS) also scored 14 points for the Axewomen and had six rebounds.

The visitors built up a 36-16 lead at half-time as turnovers proved costly for the X-Women in the opening half and the Axewomen played strong defense in the second quarter.

The third quarter saw the Axewomen outscore the home team 25-12 in the third quarter StFX struggled early on to make baskets.

Anderson continued her strong shooting and also had six rebounds and four steals in the game.

The Axewomen lead 61-28 after three quarters and held on for the easy win in the fourth quarter, closing the game at 87-52.

StFX player of the game Katie MacIntosh (Barrie, ON) was X's leading scorer with 12 points. She also had four rebounds. Chelsea Provo (East Preston, NS) added seven points and four rebounds for the X-Women.

The X-Women are next in action on November 18th and 19th when they travel to St. John's for a pair of games against the Memorial Sea-Hawks.

The Axewomen will host Dalhousie on Thursday, November 16th in a 6:00 pm game.
