Waterloo, ON – The X-Women basketball team squared off against OUA opponent York University Friday night at the Naismith Classic tournament. York came away with the 60-43 win.
The Lions got out to a 16-9 lead after the first quarter then extended the lead to 29-20 at halftime. The X-Women played a strong third quarter as the teams were even at 13 points apiece, but the Lions outpaced the AUS squad 18-10 in the final quarter.
The X-Women shot 25.5% from field goal range compared to the Lions 31.5%.
Chelsea Provo and Samantha Minicucci each scored nine points for the X-Women. Provo also had five rebounds. Jamie McCarron and Kim Kingsbury each netted seven points apiece, while Kingsbury and Caroline Hrabinski were StFX's top rebounders with seven each.
Lindsay Shotbolt lead the Lions with 14 points and seven rebounds and Haley Bowie scored 10.
The X-Women will move on to face Toronto in their final game of the Naismith Classic. Tip-off is scheduled for 2:00 pm EST on Saturday.
