Top ranked Ontario prospect commits to X-Women basketball for 2017-18

ANTIGONISH, NS – StFX women's basketball head coach Augy Jones is pleased to announce the commitment of Nepean, Ont. native Kim Kingsbury to the X-Women basketball program for the 2017-18 season.

"Kim is one of the highest ranked high school players that I have recruited in my four years as head coach here at StFX," comments Coach Jones. "I have been in contact with Kim for the past couple of years and it has been great to watch her game improve steadily and have her commit to our basketball program."

"Kim has played every perimeter position so far in her young career which speaks to her versatility. She can handle the ball, pass, penetrate to the hoop and hit mid-range jump shots. She is a perfect addition to our young, talented roster," continues Jones.

A 5'9" small forward, Kingsbury has played both basketball and soccer for the past four years at Mother Teresa High School in Nepean, Ont. She has competed with the Nepean Blue Devils basketball program and has played for the Ottawa Nationals JUEL team since 2012. She was a 2016 all-star at the Ottawa Women's All-Star Game Showcase, presented by Boxed Water and Capital Courts, in addition to earning MVP status at the Ottawa National Capital All-Star Classic tournament.

Kingsbury is currently ranked No. 10 in Ontario guards for the 2017 recruiting class, according to crownscoutgirls.com. Her soccer talents assisted her high school squad with three provincial OFSAA playoff appearances. Kim is enrolled in the StFX Bachelor of Science program, majoring in biology.

She comments, "After only five minutes into my campus tour, I knew this was the school for me. The academic programs are well respected, the class sizes are small and it seems that everyone knows everyone else. Coach Jones' kindness and the professionalism with which he represented StFX, along with the number of StFX alumni in the Ottawa basketball community who have shared with me so many positive stories of their time at StFX helped shape my decision. I am really looking forward to joining the X-Women program and playing for Coach Jones and I plan to do my part to help the team win an AUS championship."

Coach Jones touches upon the StFX alumni network as he thanks "the StFX alumni basketball community in Ottawa who initially told me about Kim and connected with me on my many recruiting trips to their region. Tom Chadwick, Kevin Rheault, Merrick Palmer, Leo Doyle, Ron MacPhee and Brendan McGuire have all been instrumental in my new-found link to female basketball players in Ottawa."
