Antigonish, NS - The Memorial Sea-Hawks (2-2) made it back-to-back wins over the StFX X-Women (0-4) with a victory in AUS basketball action Sunday afternoon at Oland Centre.

The visitors jumped to a quick 8-0 edge, propelled by a pair of jump shots from Subway player of the game Sydney Stewart (Sarnia, ON).

By the midway point of the first quarter, the X-Women trimmed the Sea-Hawk lead to 8-6. On the strength of a late 5-2 spurt, Memorial took a 15-10 advantage after a low-scoring first quarter.

Bridging the end of the opening 10 minutes and the start of the second quarter, the Sea-Hawks fashioned a 9-2 burst, led by a pair of driving hoops from Brooklynn Wright (Cambridge, ON), to make it 19-10. A three-point shot from Chelsea Provo (East Preston, NS) stopped the Memorial surge.

On a driving left-handed lay-up from Wright, the Sea-Hawks took their largest lead to that point - 27-15 - midway through the second quarter.

In the final seconds before halftime, freshman guard Jessica Miller (Mount Denson, NS) swished a jumper, from downtown, to cut the X-Women's deficit to 11. On a buzzer beater by Lindsay Taylor (Waterloo, ON), after collecting an offensive rebound, the Sea-Hawks led 39-26 at halftime.

Early in the third quarter, a three-pointer from Stewart gave Memorial a 44-28 advantage. After the X-Women fell behind by 18, Provo scored three consecutive points to make it 48-33.

With three minutes left in the quarter, the Sea-Hawks took a 48-33 lead, on a steal and lay-up from Carolyn Adams (Ottawa, ON). Memorial was up 59-36, heading to the fourth quarter.

The X-Women made a couple pushes in the final minutes, but they could get no closer than 15 points.
