Former X-Women hoopster Lessard signs pro contract in Europe

ANTIGONISH, NS – Former X-Women basketball star Lindsay Lessard has signed a professional contract with a EuroBasketball team in Malta.

A recent 2016 StFX graduate, Lessard will be living in Pembroke, along the northeast coast in the country of Malta and will play for the Caffe Moak Luxol, a Division 1 team in the Malta-Puegot League.

X-Women head coach Augy Jones comments, "I was so pleased to hear that Lindsay signed her first professional contract. I think that she is a talented, versatile player who has a deep passion for the game of basketball." 

"Lindsay was a rookie during my first coaching year at StFX and it was a pleasure to watch her develop into such an efficient scorer in the CIS. We wish her the best in her new basketball adventure and will be following her progress closely."

During her four-year career with the X-Women the Waterloo, Ont. native was an AUS all-star on two occasions, earning a first team nod in her senior campaign and a second team recognition in 2014-15. This past season she lead the CIS and AUS in scoring with a 20.8 points per game average. A team captain the past two seasons, Lessard is also a graduate of the StFX Leadership Academy.

Reflecting upon her time with the X-Women, Lessard comments, "I was honoured to play for StFX for four years. From my rookie season through to senior year, my confidence and skill level grew tremendously and I truly loved my playing time at StFX." 

"I extend thanks to my teammates, athletic therapists and the entire coaching staff, led by head coach Augy Jones. I am also thankful for being a part of the StFX Leadership Academy that allowed me to develop as a person, player and leader. I am so grateful for the support that I received from the StFX and Antigonish communities."

She is looking forward to the next stage in her basketball career stating, "I am very excited to be playing professional basketball because it gives me the opportunity to put all of my training, hard work and experience to the test at the next level. I am thrilled to be able to continue playing the game that I love."
