ANTIGONISH, NS – StFX women's basketball head coach Augy Jones is pleased to announce four recruits from Ontario who will be joining the X-Women program for the 2016-17 season.

Post Leah Fahey (Barrie, Ont.), point guard Caroline Hrabinski (Toronto), guard Lexy Parkin (St. Catharine's, Ont.) and point guard Maggie Segeren (Komoka Ont.) will all be suiting up for the white and blue this fall.

Leah Fahey is a 6'3" post from Barrie, Ont. who played for the Innisdale Secondary School basketball team in her grade 11 and 12 years. X-Women head coach Augy Jones comments, "Leah was a very sought after high school recruit. Her height and agility make her a very special post player. She will bring much needed rebounding and interior defence to our team and we are very happy to have her joining her high school and club teammate, Katie MacIntosh, here at StFX."

A member of the Barrie Royals basketball club since 2011, Fahey also played for the 'A' Game summer AAU team since 2014. She was selected by Basketball Canada to attend the national assessment camp in 2012, and was chosen for the Ontario Center for Performance in 2013. Also a talented volleyball player, Leah is enrolled in Bachelor of Arts program at StFX.

"I am beyond ecstatic to start a new journey for myself at StFX," comments Fahey. "I absolutely love the campus and the people at X and I am excited to build new relationships on and off the basketball court. Most importantly, I am excited to be enrolled in such a well-respected, prestigious university, I can't wait to call StFX my new home this fall."

Caroline Hrabinski is a 5'5" point guard from Toronto who played for St Joseph's College School, the same high school as current X-Woman Kim Taylor. "Caroline is a fantastic recruit for our basketball program and for StFX university," comments Coach Jones. "She has the leadership qualities and the maturity that is rare in young student-athletes. Caroline is a feisty point guard who epitomizes the term 'floor general'. She is passionate about life and will bring some real positivity to our basketball team and I am looking forward to coaching her for the next four years."

Hrabinski was the team captain in her grade 12 season as she helped lead St Joseph's to their first ever OFSAA provincial championship. She played for the Advantage Titans and Scarborough Blues JUEL teams, and has played for the 'A' Game summer AAU team in both 2014 and 2015. An honor roll student since grade nine, Caroline also competes in volleyball, softball and track & field and received athlete of the year honors in grades seven through 12. She is enrolled in the Bachelor of Business administration program at StFX.

"I am thrilled to be joining the StFX women's basketball team this fall," comments Hrabinski. "It is a great opportunity to play with a great coach and talented teammates and I look forward to making my contribution to help the team move forward."

Lexy Parkin is a 5'7" shooting guard from St. Catherine's, Ont. who was the team MVP for Governor Simcoe Secondary School. Coach Jones relays, "Lexy is exactly what we needed at the shooting guard spot, a three-point specialist. She is an outstanding distance shooter who has confidence and a real dedication to the game of basketball. Lexy was highly recruited by many CIS schools, so we are very pleased that she chose to attend StFX - our fans are going to love seeing her shoot the basketball."

Parkin played for the Blessed Sacrament Yellow Jackets U19 team in the Ontario Basketball Association (OBA) and the No Limit Performance club team in 2015. A member of the Niagara JUEL prep team in 2014, she was the Niagara region three-point shooting champion that year and also earned recognition as a Niagara region high school first team all-star on two occasions. Lexy also lends her talents to the volleyball court and soccer field and is a four-year high school honour roll student. She is enrolled in the Forensic Psychology program at StFX.

"Everything felt right about StFX from the moment I stepped foot on campus," comments Parkin. "It is the right fit for me in so many ways. It is such a prestigious Canadian university and it is an honour for me to represent the school as an X-Women basketball player."

Maggie Segeren is a 5'6" point guard from Komoka Ont. who is a three-time team MVP and two-time district all-star with Medway High School. Coach Jones first met Segeren last spring in Hamilton at Mohawk College's Top 40 camp. "I was able to see her participate in drills and scrimmages and her intensity and attention to detail were very impressive. Maggie is a true student of the game and is determined to improve as a basketball player, the exact qualities that we want to foster in our program going forward. She is a positive addition to our team."

Segeren also has playing experience with the London CYO U19 team. "When I was looking into post-secondary options, I had three aspects in mind: a university outside of Ontario, a well-respected institution and a place I could continue to play elite level basketball," she says. "I was thrilled when I decided that StFX was the answer.  They have a great basketball program and the players on the team made me feel welcome and at ease. I loved the coaching methods and philosophy that Coach Jones shared with me as well. It was amazing to see the community support and large crowds at the women's and men's home games I attended. I am very excited to call myself an X-Woman!" Maggie is enrolled in the Bachelor of Arts program at StFX.
