X-Women basketball announces first recruiting commitment for 2016-17

ANTIGONISH, NS – StFX women's basketball head coach Augy Jones is pleased to announce his first recruiting commitment to the 2016-17 program in forward Katie MacIntosh from Barrie, Ont.

"Katie is an outstanding addition to our basketball program," comments Coach Jones. "She is the type of player we are focusing on to build our culture:  smart, self-motivated with great leadership qualities."

"On the basketball court, Katie is a very effective post player and rebounder who can also step out and hit the mid-range jump shot. That type of inside/outside versatility is hard to find. She has done well in the talented Ontario JUEL league and in the USA playing AAU summer basketball."

A 6'2" power forward, MacIntosh attends Innisdale Secondary School in Barrie, Ont., competing in both basketball and track and field where she is a shot put/discus/javelin thrower. She has played for the Barrie Royals basketball program since 2010, and played for 'A Game' on the Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) summer travel team. Chosen for Ontario Basketball's 'Center for Performance' in 2014, MacIntosh also has coaching experience with junior high boys and girls programs in Barrie.

An honour roll student grade in each of grades 10, 11 and 12 at Innisdale Secondary School, MacIntosh is a member of the Innisdale SS Leadership Mentor Program. She is enrolled in the Bachelor of Arts program at StFX, majoring in Forensic Psychology.

MacIntosh is excited to be joining the X-Women program, commenting, "St. Francis Xavier is an excellent school and a perfect fit for me both academically and athletically. I am really looking forward to joining such an amazing group of people and continuing my basketball career as an X-Woman."
