X-Women drop second consecutive game to Panthers

CHARLOTTETOWN - The StFX X-Women (0-2) dropped their second consecutive game to start the AUS basketball regular season with a 75-66 loss to the UPEI Panthers (2-0) Saturday afternoon in Charlottetown.

Katie Donahoe (Riverview, NB) scored a game-high 25 points in leading the home team to victory. She added seven rebounds, four assists and one steal.

Former X-Women guard Anne Kiberd (Halifax, NS) and Jane McLaughlin (Fortune, PEI) also hit double figures with 14 and 13 points, respectively.

Kiberd also collected four rebounds, four assists, two steals and two blocks, while McLaughlin chipped in two assists, one steal and one block.

The Panthers held a 42.6 to 33.3 per cent edge in field goal percentage for the game, while hitting eight three-point shots, compared to one for the X-Men.

For StFX, Lindsay Lessard (Waterloo, ON) scored a double-double with 21 points and 13 rebounds. She was 7-for-8 from the free-throw line, while adding four assists and one blocked shot. 

Off the bench, Shannon Hatch (Arzo, Switzerland) also collected a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds, along with one blocked shot.

Fifth-year forward Kolbi Roper (North Vancouver, BC) scored 19 points, including nine out of 10 foul shots. She added seven rebounds and one steal.

StFX trailed 40-38 at halftime.

The X-Women will be back on the court Wednesday, Nov. 11, when they travel to Sydney to face the rival Cape Breton University Capers.

StFX will host the Acadia Axewomen in their regular season home opener Friday, Nov. 13 at Oland Centre.

Both games will tip-off at 6 p.m.

The Panthers will return to action Sunday, Nov. 15, when they make the trip to Halifax to play the defending conference champion Saint Mary's Huskies, beginning at 2 p.m.
