X-Women basketball land marquee N.B. recruit for 2015-16 season

ANTIGONISH, NS – StFX women's basketball head coach Augy Jones is pleased to announce that Moncton, N.B. native Courtney Bulman has committed to the X-Women basketball program for the 2015-16 season.

Coach Jones comments, "Courtney Bulman is a 'blue chip' recruit for our program. Our assistant coach saw her play earlier this year in a local tournament and was raving about her all-around basketball talent. I witnessed her myself in the N.B. provincial championship game and she was outstanding."

"Coincidentally, Courtney went to the same high school as former X-Woman all-star Lia St. Pierre. They both have the IQ and skill to positively impact every basketball game they play in," he continues. "Courtney is a fantastic freshman addition to our team."

The 5'9" point guard playing out of Bernice MacNaughton High School started playing the sport of basketball at the age of four with the Moncton Kiwanis Minor Basketball Association. She won a New Brunswick junior varsity provincial championship in grade nine and went on to the New Brunswick varsity provincial championship game in grades 10, 11 and 12, winning silver in her grade 10 season and back-to-back gold the past two years. Bulman was named Player of the Game in the 2015 provincial championship in St. John, N.B., recording 19 points, 10 assists, nine rebounds and four steals in the game.

"I am very excited to be attending a top ranked Canadian university," comments Bulman. "StFX has a great atmosphere and the entire community is very loyal, proud and welcoming. I am fortunate to be joining a great coaching staff within the X-Women program. The entire Athletic Department has been very helpful in my ongoing transition into university life at X."

She continues, "I am honored to be following in the footsteps of fellow BMHS grad Lia St Pierre.  She really made her mark on women's basketball at StFX and UBC and is a great role model for me. I am looking forward to the challenge of playing AUS basketball for the X-Women and am thrilled to have the opportunity to wear the blue and white uniform and represent StFX."

A 2015 New Brunswick North-East All-Star, Bulman was a member of the New Brunswick U15 and U16 provincial teams, receiving N.B. Player of the Year honors in 2012. In addition to being a starting member of her high school basketball team for the past four years, she also started on the varsity soccer and volleyball squads. An honour roll student, Courtney plans on studying science in the Human Kinetics program at StFX this fall.
