Fourth-quarter rally by X-Women falls short

Antigonish, NS - A feverish fourth-quarter rally from a 13-point deficit fell short as the StFX X-Women dropped a 62-60 decision to the visiting Laurentian Voyageurs in CIS exhibition basketball action Friday evening at the Oland Centre.

Lindsay Lessard (Waterloo, ON) gave the home team a 60-59 lead on a basket with 2:01 remaining in regulation. StFX outscored Laurentian 24 to 13 in the fourth quarter.

Mary Scott drained a three-point shot with 1:08 left to give the visitors the two-point win.

The Voyageurs, who led 31-22 at halftime, were sparked by a 17 to 9 first quarter scoring advantage. Scott, who scored 12 points and added three assists, drained four three-pointers in the game.

Adrienne Moreau led Laurentian with 19 points, while adding five rebounds, two steals and one assist. Devenae Bryce contributed nine points, six rebounds and three assists for the Voyageurs.

Lessard scored 23, a game-high, while Kolbi Roper (North Vancouver, BC) hooped 20 for the X-Women. Both StFX veteran forwards had 12 rebounds apiece.

Shannon Hatch (Arzo, Switzerland) led the X-Women with three assists, while chipping in three steals, which equaled the number garnered by Lessard. Antigonish native Melissa Gottschall contributed nine points, four rebounds, three steals and two assists.

The X-Women return to action Sunday, Oct. 26, when they travel to Bedford, NS to face the Mount Saint Vincent Mystics.
