X-Women basketball sign US recruit Jamellia Clark

ANTIGONISH, NS – StFX women's basketball head coach Augy Jones is pleased to welcome Jamellia Clark from Henderson, Nevada to the X-Women program for the 2014-15 season.

"Jamellia is a program changer for us," comments Coach Jones. "The United States is to basketball what Canada is to hockey. Each country does a great job of producing great players and Jamellia is a fine product of a system that promotes high-level competition, individual skill training and a professional approach to the game of basketball."

Jones continues, "I must thank her father James for also instilling these qualities in his daughter. Jamellia's physical toughness, versatility and competitive intensity will really help our team defense and rebounding next season. Additionally, she has the offensive ability to score inside and outside.  Most importantly, she is a team player who truly loves and trusts her teammates. She has a bright future at StFX."

A 6'0" power forward, she attended Liberty High School where she helped lead her team to the Nevada Division 1 state championship game this past season. Clark received honorable mention all-conference accolades this past season and was the winner of the Patriot Award and Most Improved Player while at Liberty High School. She also played for the Nevada Elite AAU team.

Jamellia received NCAA recruiting interest from Brown University, University of Nevada, Colorado State, Delaware State and University of Southern Florida and was invited to the UCLA evaluation camp. She came across St. Francis Xavier University and Coach Jones quite by chance when she thought she was contacting Xavier University in Cincinnati, Ohio, much to the benefit of Coach Jones and the X-Women program.

Clark will be enrolled in the Bachelor of Arts program at StFX, studying psychology and business. She commented, "I am very excited to become a part of the StFX family. On my recruiting visit, I was honored to experience what the X-Women are all about on and off the court. Not only am I impressed with the basketball program but also with the university itself and the people of Antigonish.  I am definitely looking forward to my new journey at StFX."

Clark joins Carolyn Smith and Samantha Robertson as the newest members of the X-Women basketball squad.
