X-Women fall to Capers in road match

Sydney, NS - The X-Women basketball team fell 60-49 to the Cape Breton Capers in AUS action Tuesday evening at the Sullivan Fieldhouse.

The Capers outscore the visitors 33-25 in the second half en route to the win.

Tanira McClurkin led the Capers with 16 points while Colleen Keane scored 14 points and had eight rebounds.

Alison Keough scored seven points and added nine rebounds and Kayla Gardner scored seven off the bench.

The Capers held leads of 15-12 after the first quarter and 27-24 at halftime.

They pulled away in the third quarter, outscoring the X-Women 18-9 including a 12-0 run to close out the final four minutes of the quarter. McClurkin sunk a trio of three-point baskets in the third frame.

X-Women post Kolbi Roper led the StFX scoring with 14 points and pulled down five rebounds. Lindsay Lessard scored 10 and had five boards, while Lia St. Pierre scored eight points and had four rebounds.

Rebecca Sheehan played well defensively for X with eight rebounds, four steals and one block, along with two points.

The X-Women are back on the court Friday night at 6:00 pm when they host the Acadia Axewomen in a four point game at the StFX Oland Centre. They follow up with another four point match Saturday night against Dalhousie, also a 6pm tip-off in Antigonish.
