X-Women snap losing skid with 74-61 win over Acadia

The X-Women basketball team snapped a five game losing skid with a 74-61 victory over the Acadia Axewomen Thursday evening in Wolfville, NS.  The win was worth four points in the AUS standings.

The X-Women came with a balanced attack as four players were in the double scoring figures when all was said and done.

Subway player of the game Vanessa Pickard scored 18 points for X and added two rebounds and two assists, while Rebecca Sheehan and Lindsay Lessard each scored 16 points. Pickard and Sheehan each scored a trio of three-point buckets.

Lia St. Pierre contributed 14 points and led the team with 8 rebounds in the win.

Replying for the Axewomen was Abbey Duinker who scored 16 points and had six rebounds. Katie Ross scored 13 and had seven boards, while Maya Macatumpag and Tamara Dondoi each scored 10 points apiece.

The X-Women quickly established the pace of the game, getting out to an early 29-16 first quarter lead.

The Axewomen outscored them 16-10 in the second quarter as StFX held onto a 39-32 half-time lead.

The blue and white went to outscore the home team 35-29 in the second half en route to the victory, their second of the season after dropping the last five games.

StFX will close out the first half of AUS play with a game against the UPEI Panthers Saturday, November 30th at the StFX Oland Centre. Tip-off is slated for 6:00 pm.
