X-Women drop double-overtime decision to Capers

In a re-match of opening night of the AUS basketball regular season, the StFX X-Women (1-1) dropped a 68-63 double-overtime decision to the Cape Breton University Capers (1-1) Saturday at Sullivan Field House in Sydney.

The teams were tied 53-53 at the end of regulation.

Including the final five points, the Capers outscored the X-Women 8-3 in the second overtime period to secure the victory.

With seven seconds remaining in the first overtime, X-Women fifth-year guard Lia St. Pierre tied the game 60-60 with a three-pointer, which led to another five-minute extra session.

The X-Women rallied from a six-point deficit in the fourth quarter to force overtime.

St. Pierre led the blue and white with 23 points, while adding 16 rebounds, three assists and two steals.

Guard Vanessa Pickard and post Kolbi Roper also hit double figures for the X-Women, with 15 and 10 points, respectively.

Fifth-year guard Rebecca Sheehan contributed five points, nine rebounds, three assists, three steals and one blocked shot.

Rasheeka Gunn led four Capers in double digits with 24 points, while contributing 11 rebounds.

Tanira McClurkin chipped in 13, while Alison Keough and Jalynn Skeir added 12 and 10 points, respectively. McClurkin added 10 rebounds, while Keough notched 16 rebounds and five assists.

The X-Women led 25-21 at halftime.

StFX returns to action Wednesday, Nov. 13, when they travel to Halifax to face the defending conference champion Saint Mary's Huskies. Game time is 6 p.m. at the Tower.
