Track & field athletes compete in final regular season meet of season

Halifax, NS – StFX X-Women and X-Men track & field athletes competed at the SMU Open meet on Sunday at the Canada Games Centre in their last meet prior to the Subway AUS Championships. StFX was represented in all running and jumping events.

Jane Hergett had a strong day, winning both the 600m and 3000m events. She completed the 600m in a time of 1:33.89, bettering her own StFX record in the event of 1:33.96 she set last year. In the 3000m, Jane bested the field of 19 in the 3000m with a time of 10:05.94.

Catherine Kennedy had two strong races, placing second in the 600m behind Hergett with a personal best time of 1:35.42, and she came third in the 300m race at 41.82.

In the 1000m, StFX's Aidan MacDonald came first overall with a 3:01.78 result, followed by her teammates Paige Chisholm (3:03.93) and Chloe Walker (3:07.19) in second and third.

Megan Graham nabbed second place in the 60m hurdles, clocking in at 9.21, while Lani Deakin had a strong showing in the jumping events. She came first in the triple jump with a 10.40m jump, and was second in the long jump at 5.29m.

In the men's jumping events, Kirishnia Cooper won both the long jump (6.26m) and triple jump (13.25m). Skeets Greene was second in the long jump for aged 18-9 with a 6.30m result.

The X-Men had some strong results in the running events as well. Eric Sutton came second in the 300m dash, clocking in at 36.15, while teammate Brad Barclay was right behind him in third place at 36.27.

Quinn Alexander came first in the 600m race with a time of 1:23.46, with Sutton in third at 1:27.60.

The 3000m race for age 18-19 featured seven competitors with StFX's Jacob Benoit coming out in top spot, finishing at 8:44.82. Graydon Staples (8:55.24) was second in the same event for age 20-34, and Luc Gallant (8:55.52) was third.

The track athletes now look ahead to the Subway AUS Championship, scheduled for February 21-22 in Saint John, NB as hosted by UNB.
