X-Men represent at Saint John meet

Saint John, NB – The StFX X-Men competed at the Irving Oil Fieldhouse for the first time on Friday and Saturday at the NB Indoor & University Invitational.

StFX had athletes represented in the 60m, 300m, 600m, 1000m, 1500m, 3000m, all three relays, along with the high jump, long jump, triple jump, shot put and weight throw.

In Friday night's 60m dash, Brad Barclay took top spot with a time of 7.23. Johnny west came second at 7.35 and Isaac Fagnan was sixth at 7.77. IN the same event on Saturday West placed sixth with a 7.43 and Fagnan was 10th at 7.76.

The 300m sprint featured Barclay coming in second spot for the X-Women with a time of 36.11. His teammate Eric Sutton (36.28) was third, Justin Major (36.33) came fifth and Fagnan (39.77) was seventh.

Sutton came third in the 600m race with a 1:24.54 result, was Major was eighth at 1:28.29.

In the 1000m race for age 18-19, brothers Eric Knight (2:43.67) and Evan Knight (2:45.35) came second and third. In the same distance for age 20-34, Quinn Alexander placed fourth with a 2:36.80 finish.

Jacob Benoit came second in the 1500m race for age 18-19 with a time of 4:05.03, while Findlay Day (4:23.73) came fourth. In the age 20-34 race, Graydon Staples (4:09.59) came fourth, followed by Addison Derhak (4:17.84) and Luc Gallant (4:25.33) in seventh and 12th.

Benoit was the top X finisher in the 3000m event. His time of 8:45.84 was good enough for second spot overall. Staples (8:54.47) came third, followed by teammates Gallant (4th, 9:05.72), Day (12th, 9:23.65) and Derhak (18th, 9:46.01).

StFX entered teams in all three relay events. In the 4x200m they came second with a time of 1:33.62. The X-Men had three teams in the 4x400m relay, with the 'A' team coming second at 3:35.68, followed by the 'B' team (3:46.91) and 'C' team (3:51.02) in third and fourth. The 4x800m team placed fourth with a time of 8:14.40.

In the jumping events, Logan Coulet placed first in the high jump with a 1.90m result. Barclay as first in the long jump (6.32m) and Kirishnia Cooper (6.08m) was second. Cooper came first in the triple jump with a 13.30m jump.

Curtis Kuzmyk and Aidan McMann competed in both the shot put and weight throw for the X-Men. Kuzmyk was fourth in the shot put with a 11.61m throw and second in the weight throw at 9.27m. McMann came sixth in the shot put (11.42m) but fouled out in the weight throw.

The X-Men will be back in action next Saturday, February 8th competing at the SMU Open in Halifax before returning to Saint John February 21-22 for the Subway AUS Championship.
