Kennedy sprints to pair of first place finishes in Halifax

Halifax, NS – Members of the X-Women track and field team competed in various running and jumping events Friday evening and Saturday at the NS Athletics Indoor Open at the Canada Games Center.

X-MEN TRACK & FIELD RECAP 

Veteran sprinter Catherine Kennedy ran to first place finishes in both the 300m and 600m events. She bested a field of 13 in the 300m with a time of 42.07, and ran a 1:38.14 in the 600m in another field of 13 competitors.

Also competing for the X-Women in the 300m were Megan Graham (43.61) in third place, Jessica Clarke (43.82) in fourth place and Olivia Crewe (44.40) in fifth, along with Mira Alexander (45.26, 6th), Michelle Vava (45.36, 7th), and Aidan MacDonald (45.76, 8th).

In the 600m event, MacDonald came second with a time of 1:40.01 and Alexander was fourth at 1:42.39. Lauren Liem (1:43.71) was seventh, followed by Chloe Walker (1:44.07, 8th), Meaghan Boatsmith (1:48.89, 10th) and Vava (1:51.90, 11th).

Four X-Women competed in the 1500m race for aged 18-19 with Tanna Burke as the first place finisher, clocking in at 5:09.56. Kali Beaton (5:14. 52) was third, Bridget Keedwell (5:33.53) was fourth and Gabriella Carpinteri (5:4.80) fifth.

In the same event for age 20-24, Jane Hergett took top spot, besting the field of 10 with a time of 4:32.69. Paige Chisholm came third at 4:47.65, followed by Zoe Johnston (5:02.37, 5th), Breanna Sandluck (5:11.96, 9th) and Ellen Taggart (5:13.65, 10th).

In the 60m hurdles, Graham came second overall with a time of 9.56. Crewe (9.58) was third, Clarke (9.62) came fourth and Erin Brennan (10.33) was sixth.

The 60m dash featured three X-Women with Meg Mary Krawchuk placing the highest in third place with an 8.20 result. Lani Deakin came fourth at 8.21 and Clarke was fifth at 8.25.

Deakin also placed in the long jump and triple jump. Her 5.06m long jump gave her third place, while her 10.48m result was tops in the triple jump. Brennan came fifth in the long jump at 4.67m and was third overall in the high jump with a 1.40m result.

Next on the schedule is the UNB Invitational being hosted in Saint John, NB on January 31st and February 1st.
