Track & field athletes compete at Athletics NS Open

Halifax, NS – StFX X-Men and X-Women track & field athletes competed at the Athletics NS Open meet in Halifax at the Canada Games Center on Saturday. The following highlights top three performances from StFX athletes in various disciplines.

FULL RESULTS

In the women's sprints, second year runner Samantha Taylor earned a third place showing in the 60m dash and a first place finish in the 300m. She clocked in at 8.06 in the 60m and 42.43 in the 300m. Catherine Kennedy was third in the 300m at 43.39.

In the 600m for age 18-19, freshmen Aidan MacDonald (1:39.41) and Lauren Liem (1:44.17) placed second and third, respectively.

Jane Hergett set a personal best time of 2:52.78 in the 1000m race in a first place finish and in doing so landed in the top five rankings in the country.

In the 3000m, Rachel MacDougall and Zoe Johnston came second and third with times of 10;31.54 and 10:32.97.

A pair of X-Women placed first and second overall in the 60m hurdles. Megan Graham won the race with a time of 9.43, followed closely by teammate Catherine Kennedy at 9.45.

In jumping, Lani Deakin came second in both the high jump (1.50m) and triple jump (10.72m).

In men's jumping, Kirishnia Cooper broke his own school record of 13.09m in the triple jump as won the event with a 13.14m jump.

In the sprints, Tim Brennan had a third place finish in the 300m at 36.04, and then won the 600m with a 1:21.21 finish. His time in the 600m bested the previous StFX school record of 1:21.68 set by Mackenzie Munroe and also landed him in the top 10 rankings in the country.

The 600m race featured a StFX sweep with Brennan in first place, followed by Alexander Quinn (1:25.27) and Eric Sutton (1:25.72). Alex Moore came third in the 600m for age 18-19 with a time of 1:30.79.

The distance events featured veteran runner Angus Rawling run a personal best time of 3:52.64 in the 1500m race, placing him in the top 10 in Canada. Luc Gallant was second in the 1500m for age 18-19 with a 4:22.48 result.

Paul MacLellan won the 3000m event with a time of 8:47.51.

The StFX tracksters will have a quick turnaround for their next competition as they take to the road January 25-26th for the McGill Team Challenge in Montreal, one of the largest indoor meets in Canada.
