StFX and Dalhousie compete in dual meet

Halifax, NS – The StFX X-Men and X-Women and Dalhousie Tigers competed in a dual meet at the Canada Games Centre Sunday evening. The unique event marked the first time the StFX track & field team participated in such an event.

The men and women competed as one team per side with the meet being scored 5-3-1 in each event. With a total of eight events, the dual meet resulted in a tie with both squads accumulating 34 points.

StFX assistant coach Eric Gillis commented, "The StFX-Dalhousie first dual meet was a big hit. There was a lot of good performances and the head-to-head competition was great for developing racing skills."

Events included the men's and women's 300m dash, 1000m, 3000m and long jump.

Allie Flower (Lunenburg, NS) won the women's 300m dash with a time of 41.40, while teammate Hayley Wilson (Skye Glen, NS) was third at 43.48. Tim Brennan (Beechwood, NB) won the men's 300m at 36.64.

In the women's 1000m race, X-Women Jane Hergett (Port Williams, NS) and Hana Marmura (Antigonish, NS) placed second and third, respectively with times of 3:04.67 and 3:07.78.X-men runner Angus Rawling (Calgary, AB) won the men's 1000m race, clocking in at 2:32.30. Alex Neuffer (Stratford, PE) was second at 2:33.70.

Rawling and Paul MacLellan (Antigonish, NS) came second and third in the men's 3000m race for the X-Men. Former X runner Cal DeWolfe, who now competes for Dalhousie, won the race with a time of 8:33.45. Rawling finished at 8:37.01 and MacLellan at 8:55.78. Rachel MacDougall (Antigonish, NS) came second in the women's 3000m race with a time of 11:01.84.

In the long jump events, the X-Men did not field any competitors but X-Women Baillie Marcott (Port Hood, NS) and Madison Nastasiuk (Barrie, ON) placed second and third with results of 5.11m and 5.06m, respectively.

The StFX track & field team will be back in action on Saturday, January 13th when they travel to Moncton for an AUS meet.
