Track & field team wraps up competition prior to AUS championship

Halifax, NS – The X-Women and X-Men track & field team competed at the SMU Open at the Canada Games Center Saturday in their last meet prior to the AUS championship.

In the women's 60m dash (age 18-19), Perissa Forbes was second with a time, while Abbi Finnan won the same event (age 20-34) with a 7.98 clocking. Jillian Murphy (8.02) was fourth and Jillian Nolan (8.50) 12th.

In the 60m hurdles, Bridget Brennan won top spot with a 9.16 result. Finnan was second at 9.26.

In the 300m sprint (age 18-19), Forbes came fifth with a time of 44.76. Six X-Women competed in the 300m (age 20-34), including Brennan who was second at 41.11. She was followed closely by Murphy (42.08), Allie Flower (42.67) and Candace Cruickshank (42.72) in third, fourth and fifth. Beth Lawrence (44.30) and Nolan (46.29) were eighth and ninth.

Flower and Lawrence competed in the 600m with Flower taking home top spot in a time of 1:39.91. Lawrence was third at 1:41.35.

Kevyn Lawrence was the lone X-Women competitor in the 100m event, placing sixth with a time of 3:13.95.

Olivia MacDonald (5:05.16) ran to first place in the 1500m (age 18-19). In the same event (age 20-34), Liz MacDonald won first place, crossing the line at 4:55.73. Kendra MacNeil (4:56.86) was second, while Leah Gouthro (5:20.00) placed eighth, Heidi MacDonald (5:15.00) was ninth and Ellen Burnett (5:20.00) was 11th.

In the 3000m (age 18-19), Hana Marmura was first with a 10:34.68 showing, while Olivia MacDonald was second at 11:12.28.

Liz MacDonald was fourth in the 3000m (age 20-34) with a time of 10:31.29. MacNeil placed fifth and Gouthro was sixth, posting times of 10:46.36 and 11:34.68, respectively.

Mary Catherine Thompson was the lone StFX competitor in the high jump, placing fifth with a 1.40m jump. She was seventh in the long jump with a 4.86m result. Brennan won the long jump at 5.59m and Madison Nastasiuk (4.66m) was eighth for the X-Women.

In the men's jumping events, Jake McKenna was the only X-Men in the high jump, placing fourth at 1.80m, while Creighton Jewkes competed in the long jump (age 18-19) and was second at 4.92m.

In the sprints, Adrian Kinney came third in the 60m dash (age 18-19) with a 7.25, while James Lucas was the top X-Men in the 60m dash (age 20-34), also at 7.25. Matt Murphy came seventh at 7.35, Jordan Tyrrell was 17th at 7.57 and Jordyn Mittoo was 18th at 7.57.

In the 60m hurdles, McKenna came second at 8.80, while Tyrrell was fourth at 9.41.

Justin Major was the lone X-Men in the 300m event (age 18-19), placing fourth with a 38.24 result. He also competed in the 600m (age 18-19), with another fourth place showing at 1:29.80. Andrew Bain (1:25.11) was fifth and Ryan Washburn (1:27.30) seventh in the 600m (age 20-24).   

Washburn came ninth in the 1000m with a 2:48.03 result.

In the distance events, Alex Cyr (3:55.71) and Ryan O'Regan (4:18.58) competed in the 1500m (age 20-34), placing second and sixth, respectively.

In the 3000m (age 20-34), Alex Neuffer took home top spot with am 8:30.73 finish. Cal DeWolfe (8:45.04) was second, while Nick Favero (8:53.79) was fifth and Paul MacLellan (8:55.56) was sixth. Edward MacDonald placed 10th at 9:24.44 and Warren Ferguson 11th at 9:30.95.

Rounding out the results was the X-Men 4x400m relay team who came first with a time of 3:39.02. Team members included James Lucas, Tim Brennan, Adrian Kinney and Andrew Bain.

The meet wraps up competition prior to the Subway AUS Championship which takes place February 27-28 in Moncton.
