Halifax, NS- The Dalhousie Tigers scored three unanswered goals early en route to a 3-1 win over the StFX X-Men Sunday afternoon at Wickwire Field in AUS men's soccer action. The win moves the Tigers into a tie for first place in the AUS table while the X-Men cling onto the final playoff spot.

The Tigers managed to get on the board in the first five minutes of the game. Freddy Bekkers (Halifax, NS) fired a shot that StFX goalie Thomas Pieroway (Conception Bay, NF) could not handle giving Zach Shaffelburg (Wolfville, NS) a tap in goal off the rebound.

Shaffelburg was back at it in the 18th minute striking the ball from outside of the 18-yard box to the top corner of the net to put the Tigers up 2-0.

Bekkers was able to stretch the lead to three in the 29th minute off a cross from Mark Hagen that landed perfectly on Bekkers right foot in goal scoring position.

The Tigers took the 3-0 lead into the dressing room at half.

In the second half the X-Men were the dominant team with multiple chances including Dylan Lawrence (Ottawa, ON) ringing a shot off the crossbar. StFX outshot the Tigers 8-1 in the second frame.

The X-Men were able to get one by Dalhousie keeper Jason Ross (Bedford, NS) in the final minutes off the boot of Natneal Tecle (Calgary, AB). Ross stopped five of six shots fired on goal.

The Tigers (5-2-3) will host Cape Breton (5-1-3) Sunday, October 25 at Wickwire Field. The X-Men (3-3-3) will travel to Memorial (3-5-1) for a two game set on October 24th and 25th.
