X-Men suffer soccer setback to Mounties

Sackville, NB - The StFX X-Men (1-2-2) dropped a 2-0 decision to the host Mount Allison Mounties (1-5-0) in AUS soccer action Sunday afternoon.

The setback came after the X-Men played to a 0-0 draw Friday evening against the CIS ranked No. 3 Cape Breton Capers. 

Fifth-year senior forward Federico Mora (Fredericton, NB) scored second-half goals - in the 53rd and 76th minute - for the Mounties.

Junior Mitsutoshi Matsuda (Shizuoka, Japan) assisted on the second marker.

Makenzie Hill, a sophomore goalkeeper from Fredericton, made eight saves for the win, including three on X-Men fifth-year senior midfielder Randy Ribeiro (Cambridge, ON).

Sophomore midfielder Liam Elbourne (Halifax, NS) put two shots on Hill, while X-Men Dan Hayfield (Exeter, UK), Dylan Lawrence (Ottawa, ON) and Serge Dossou (Calgary, AB) collected one shot on goal apiece.

In the match, the X-Men took 15 shots. They also had 11 corner kick opportunities, but were unable to capitalize.  

Junior goalkeeper Matthew Lannan (Ottawa, ON) made four saves for the X-Men in the loss.

StFX returns to action Saturday, Oct. 3, when they travel to Halifax to face the Saint Mary's Huskies in a 1 p.m. start.

The blue and white will be back on home turf at Oland Stadium Sunday, Oct. 4, when they will face the Acadia Axemen.

The StFX Homecoming 2015 match will kick-off at 1 p.m.
