Soccer X-Men shutout for first loss of the regular season

Charlottetown, PE - The StFX X-Men tasted defeat for the first time in AUS regular season soccer action with a 4-0 road loss to the UPEI Panthers Friday evening.

Nacho Sanchez (PEI) opened the scoring for the home team, in the seventh minute, on a helper from Cole MacMillan (Stanhope, PEI).

Striker Harminder Singh (Cremona, Italy) notched his first of back-to-back goals, in the 23rd minute, on an assist from Sam Smiley, another PEI product.

In the 35th minute, Harminder scored his second of the match.

Mark Smith, one of the six Panther freshmen from PEI, scored the lone goal of the second half, in the 72nd minute.

Liam Elbourne (Halifax, NS), Natneal Tecle (Calgary, AB), Randy Ribeiro (Cambridge, ON) and Serge Dossou (Calgary, AB) collected two shots apiece to lead the X-Men offensive attack.

Brett Strba (Windsor Junction, NS) made save one for the Panthers in the win, while Thomas Pieroway (Conception Bay, NL) turned aside one shot for the X-Men in the loss.

The Panthers are back on the field Saturday, Sept. 19, when they host the Cape Breton University Capers at 5:15 p.m. in Charlottetown.

The X-Men return to the pitch when they host the Capers Friday, Sept. 25 at Oland Stadium in Antigonish. Opening kick-off is set for 7:15 p.m.
