X-Men drop 2-1 decision to visiting Tigers

After tying the match late, the StFX X-Men dropped a 2-1 decision to the Dalhousie Tigers in AUS soccer action Sunday afternoon at Oland Stadium in Antigonish.

With the win, the Tigers improve 4-3-2, while the X-Men fall to the same 4-3-2 record.

"We played well. It was back and forth, but it was a tough finish," X-Men third-year defender Ryan Ashlee said.

The visitors opened the scoring in the first half, during injury time, on a marker by midfielder Aaron Hoyle.

In the second half, the X-Men, who were already playing without midfielders Randy Ribeiro and Michael Al-Assadi, lost defender Serge Dossou, who received a red card.

With that banishment, the X-Men were one player short after the 59th minute of the match.

In the 88th minute, the blue and white got the equalizer, with the own goal coming off a throw in by fifth-year defender Jamie Tibbo.

Less than 30 seconds later, striker William Kafeero scored the game winner for the Tigers.

"We have to keep working hard," Ashlee said, when asked about the X-Men as they push for the playoffs in the conference.

He added "discipline and focus" will also be keys to success for the X-Men who now find themselves in a three-way tie in a tight AUS conference.

The X-Men return to action Sunday, Oct. 20, when they travel to Wolfville to face the Acadia Axemen.
