X-Men victorious over UPEI in Charlottetown

Charlottetown, PE – The U SPORTS No. 4 ranked StFX X-Men skated to a 4-2 win over the UPEI Panthers Saturday evening at UPEI.

The teams exchanged first and second period goals before Adam Stevens netted the game winner on the power play with under five minutes to play in the third period.

UPEI's Beau McCue opened the scoring in the game only nine seconds in on the first rush, but StFX's Holden Cook tied it up late in the first period.

Second period goals came from the sticks of the X-Men's Michael Clarke and the Panthers Darcy Ashley on the power play. Mark Tremaine assisted on both X-Men goals as the line of Tremaine, Cook and Clarke handled

Stevens game winning goal came at the 15:28 mark of the third period from Matt Needham and Cole MacDonald. The X-Men rounded out the scoring with an empty goal from Matt Needham while shorthanded with only seven second left on the clock.

Chase Marchand earned the win in the StFX net with 23 saves as the X-Men outshot the Panthers 31-25. Matt Mahalak took the loss for UPEI.

X-Men forward Michael Clarke received Subway player of the game honors.

The second place X-Men will next see AUS action at home on Friday night, November 17th when they host the first place UNB Varsity Reds.

UPEI is on the road for a Friday game at Dalhousie.
