X-Men improve to 7-3 with win over Moncton

Moncton, NB - The StFX X-Men skated to a 4-2 win over the Universite de Moncton Aigles Bleus Saturday night in AUS hockey action.

At 4:22 of the first period, on the power play, the home side took a 1-0 edge on a marker from Jean-Sebastien Fournier (Levi's, QC). Alex Saulnier (Cap Pele, NB) and Jean-Francois Plante (Sherbrooke, QC) chipped in assists.

Moncton doubled their lead, at 10:28, with Plante tallying from Danick Emond (Terrebonne, QC).

At 18:02, Jagger Dirk (Penticton, BC) sliced the lead in half for the X-Men, from Adam Stevens (Bedford, NS) and Kristoff Kontos (Penetanguishene, ON).

In the second period, at 8:50, freshman Sam Studnicka (Windsor, ON) knotted the contest, from Brent Turnbull (Stellarton, NS). 

The X-Men took their first lead, at 9:45, when Michael Clarke (London, ON) found the back of the net, from Cole MacDonald (Wetaskiwin, AB) and Mark Tremaine (Dartmouth, NS).

Before the end of the middle frame, the X-Men went up 4-2, on a goal from captain Eric Locke (Toronto, ON). Clarke and Holden Cook (Oshawa, ON) collected the helpers on the power play marker.

In the third period, the teams could not light up the scoreboard.

Chase Marchand (Halifax, NS) made 31 saves for the X-Men, while Alexi Thibaudeau (Gatineau, QC) garnered 31 stops.

The X-Men will be back on the ice Wednesday, Nov. 9, when they face the Saint Mary's Huskies in Halifax. Moncton will host the Acadia Axemen Saturday, Nov 12. Puck drop for both games is 7 p.m.
