X-Men handle Tigers 5-2 in Halifax

The X-Men hockey team picked up their third win of the season, improving to 3-4 after a 5-2 victory over the Dalhousie Tigers in Halifax Wednesday night.

Subway player of the game Jason Bast had a goal and two assists while goaltender Drew Owsley picked up 17 saves in the StFX net.

Bast set the tone early for the blue and white, scoring 1:17 into the game from R.D. Chisholm and Jarrad Struthers.

Freshman forward Blake Gal increased the X lead to 2-0 at 15:45 as the X-Men held the two-goal advantage after 20 minutes of play. Bast and Cory MacIntosh picked up the assists.

Brett Theberge got the Tigers on the board 5:19 into the second period, but MacIntosh re-established the two goal X-Men lead with a power play marker with less than two minutes to play in the second. Bast and Gal assisted.

StFX outshot the Tigers 34-10 over two periods.

Chris Ivanko gave Dalhousie life with a third period goal at 4:51 but the X-Men came right back with two more goals before the game expired.

Steven Kuhn from Nathan Chiarlitti, tallied StFX's fourth goal at 12:46, then Chiarlitti and Rob Slaney assisted on the final X goal, scored by Brad Cuzner at 16:54.

Final shots on goal registered in at 46-19 in the lopsided favor of the X-Men.

Bobby Nadeau took the loss in nets for the Tigers, who remain in search of their first AUS win at 0-7.

The AUS men's hockey league breaks for the coming weekend to allow players to attend a training camp and all-star game in Fredericton for the selection of the Canadian team that will compete at the upcoming World University Games in Italy in December.

StFX resumes AUS regular season play on November 15th and 16th when they will host St. Thomas and UPEI at the Keating Centre. Puck drop is 7:00 pm on both evenings.
