ANTIGONISH, NS – StFX men's hockey head coach Brad Peddle is pleased to announce that Ontario Hockey League (OHL) defenseman Nathan Chiarlitti will be suiting up for the X-Men this coming fall.

"We are extremely happy to add Nathan to our X-Men hockey program," comments Coach Peddle. "He was a highly sought after recruit and is a premier OHL defenseman that does so many things well."

"Nathan is a very good two-way defenseman who is very experienced. He played with some great OHL programs in Sarnia and Owen Sound, and also had the opportunity to represent Canada on the national U18 team. He has great leadership skills, being a captain in the OHL since he was 18, and is a very good student with proven academic success at the university level. He will be a tremendous addition to our program and to the university, and a great fit with our returning group."

A native of Maple, Ont., the 5'11", 190 pound defenseman played five seasons in the OHL, four years with the Sarnia Sting and one most recently with the Owen Sound Attack. While in Sarnia he was the captain for two years and was an assistant captain during his year in Owen Sound.

"I'm very excited to start a new chapter of my life with St. Fx. Between the opportunities that are available both academically and in hockey, I look forward to starting my undergrad and the upcoming hockey season."

Chiarlitti played 335 career OHL games, tallying 90 points (16 goals and 74 assists). He won a gold medal with Team Ontario at the Under-17 World Hockey Championship in 2009, then followed up his international experience as a member of Team Canada at 2010 Under-18 World Hockey Championship in Belarus. Nathan also competed as a member of Team OHL for the 2011 Subway Super Series versus Russia.
