Roper & Day named Boston Pizza athletes of the week
X-Women basketball post Kolbi Roper was named the StFX Female Athlete of the Week for the week ending December 2, 2012. Kolbi, a second year Arts student from North Vancouver, BC, led the X-Women in scoring Wednesday night in their close 74-73 victory over Acadia. Kolbi netted 21 points and had 16 rebounds in a key 4-point win, helping move the X-Women into second place. Kolbi is currently second overall in both AUS and CIS scoring, averaging 22.0 points/game. She leads the AUS in rebounding and is fourth in the country, averaging 9.6 rebounds/game.
X-Men hockey defenseman Josh Day was named the StFX Male Athlete of the Week for the week ending December 2, 2012. Josh, a fourth year Arts student from St. John’s, NF, scored three goals in two weekend games. In the X-Men’s 4-3 overtime win over Moncton Friday night, Josh scored the opening goal of the game and also had 4 shots on net. In their close 5-4 shootout loss to St. Thomas on Saturday, Josh tallied two goals, StFX’s opening goal in the first period while on the power play, and the game-tying goal with only 20 seconds left to play in the third period, forcing overtime. He also had 6 shots in the game. Josh currently sits fourth overall amongst AUS defenseman scoring with 11 points (5 goals, 6 assists) in 16 games played to date.
