X-Men tame Tigers

The StFX X-Men skated away with a 5-2 victory over the Dalhousie Tigers Saturday night in Halifax on the strength of two power play goals.
The home team Tigers opened the scoring in the game with a goal by Daniel Bartek at 9:13 of the first period. Brendon MacDonald and Kendall MacInnis assisted.
X-Men defenseman R.D. Chisholm tied it up at 14:31, from Ted Stephens, and the 1-1 score held til the end of the first period.
StFX took a 3-1 lead on second period goals by Jason Bast and Zack MacQueen. Bast scored at 14:30, a snap shot that beat Tigers goaltender Wendell Vye top corner. Michael Kirkpatrick picked up his first of three assists on the night and Gabe O’Connor also picked up a helper. MacQueen’s goal, a blast from the point while on the power play, found its way through a crowd to hit the back of the net. Bronson Maschmeyer and Brennen Wray assisted.
The Tigers closed the gap with a Francois Gauthier goal, from Andrew Wigginton, 2:38 into the third period, but the X-Men came back with two unanswered goals to secure the victory.
Maschmeyer tallied a power play marker at 8:08 from Kirkpatrick and MacQueen, beating Vye five-hole, then Jarrad Struthers rounded out the X scoring at 18:08. Kirkpatrick picked up his third point on the Struthers goal.
The shots were even at 29 apiece. Drew Owsley picked up the win in the StFX net while Vye was tagged with the loss for the Tigers.
StFX went 1-1 for the weekend, losing 5-2 the previous evening to Saint Mary’s, also in Halifax. The X-Men currently sit in fourth place in the AUS conference with an 8-5-1 record. Next on their schedule is another road trip. Friday, November 30th they will visit the fifth place Moncton Aigles Bleus (7-5-2), followed by a Saturday night game in Fredericton against the eighth place St. Thomas Tommies (1-13-0).
