November 20, 2011
The StFX X-Men received a confidence boost Saturday night in Antigonish, N.S. with a big 5-3 win over the Dalhousie Tigers. Jason Bast had a huge night for the X-Men, tallying 5 points in the victory, including a hat trick.
Michael Kirkpatrick (McAvoy, Bast) got the ball rolling early for StFX, scoring 59 seconds into the first period. Dalhousie weathered the X-Men storm however, scoring two straight goals from Brendan Macdonald (Bartek, Gervais) and Daniel Bartek. Bartek scored with 10 seconds remaining in the first period on a perfect shot right off the faceoff dot which gave Dalhousie the 2-1 lead heading into the second period.
The Tigers continued to pour on the pressure early in the second period, as Francois Gauthier (Stoddard) scored the insurance marker at the 3:12 mark. This Tigers goal seemed to set a fire under the X-Men and more specifically Jason Bast as he tallied two straight goals, both assisted by Bryce Swan, to even this game at 3-3 heading into a frantic third period.
The X-Men continued to ride the momentum into the third period, and Bryce Swan came through with the game winning goal, scored on the power play at 15:20. Kirkpatrick and Bast assisted on the play. Bast then capped his career night with his hatrick goal (Louis, Perricone) at the 19:07 mark of the third to send the blue and white home with the victory.
