StFX University is preparing to say goodbye to a coaching legend. Veteran X-Men Basketball head coach Steve Konchalski is retiring at the end of the month after 46 years behind the bench.
The inaugural ‘Coach K Challenge’ exhibition game was a victory for the hometown X-Men over the Acadia Axemen by a 99-76 margin. The victory marked career win #919 for veteran X-Men head coach Steve Konchalski as he closes out his 46-year coaching career at StFX with 1495 career games.
StFX Director of Athletics & Recreation Leo MacPherson is very pleased to announce a variety of initiatives to honour long time men’s basketball head coach Steve Konchalski (Coach K) throughout the entire month of March. Coach K is set to retire as of March 31st after 46 years of service.
With our world remaining in the tight grip of the COVID-19 pandemic, it continues to be a time of change and adjustment for most, including StFX varsity student-athletes. While maintaining their focus on athletics – and academics, of course – members of the StFX Athletics’ family have also pitched in to help everyone at the university remain safe and healthy.
The StFX X-Men have what could be described as ‘unfinished business,’ when the Atlantic University Sport (AUS) men’s basketball season tips off in early 2021. The White and Blue ended last-season with a hard-fought loss to the eventual CIS silver-medal winning Dalhousie Tigers in the conference championship game.
