Tigers earn lopsided win over X-Men

Antigonish, NS – The Dalhousie Tigers showed why they are the second ranked team in the nation as they earned a lopsided 97-54 victory over the StFX X-Men Thursday night at the Saputo Centre.

The Tigers got out to an early 28-16 first quarter lead and didn't look back. As the X-Men struggled to score, the Tigers went 4-for7 from the three-point line to build up their lead.

The second quarter saw the Tigers hold the X-Men to 12 points as they built up a 57-28 lead at halftime. Subway player of the game Keevan Veinot (Port Williams, NS) scored 11 of his 18 points in the quarter.

Dalhousie continued their strong outside shooting in the third quarter. Jordan Brathwaite (Milton, ON) was 3-for-4 from beyond the arc as the visitors won the quarter 25-13.

The X-Men trailed 82-41 after three.

With the game out of reach, the Tigers bench scored 11 of their 15 points in the fourth quarter as the game closed out 97-54.

Veinot was the Tigers leading scorer with 18 points on the night. He was also the top rebounder with seven, and dished six assists.

Braithwaite and Sascha Kappos (Miami, FL) each scored 13 points and Alex Capson (Lower Sackville, NS) contributed 12 off the bench.

Azaro Roker (Nassua, Bahamas) scored 16 for the X-Men and had nine rebounds. Justin Andrew (Hamilton, ON) added eight points.

With the loss the X-Men drop to 4-5 and are currently tied with Memorial for second place.

The Tigers remain undefeated on the season, improving their record to 9-0 atop the AUS standings.

The same two teams will be back in action again on Coach K Court in Antigonish on Saturday night. Tip-off is 8:00 pm.
