Reds defeat X-Men in exhibition OT game

Antigonish, NS – The X-Men and Reds played an entertaining pre-season exhibition game Friday night at the StFX Saputo Centre as the Reds came out on top 96-92, needing overtime to do it.

Freshman Marcus Masters (Kitchener, ON) scored 34 points to lead the Reds while veteran Chris Spurrell (Quispamsis) netted 17 and dished five assists.

It was the X-Men who got out to early leads in the game, going up 23-22 after the first quarter and 43-39 at halftime.

The visiting Reds turned the game around in the third quarter outscoring the X-Men 24-17 to take a 63-60 advantage after 30 minutes of play.

After back and forth action throughout the fourth quarter the teams were deadlocked at 84-84 and needed the extra overtime period to settle the game.

The X-Men had a big night from freshman guard Dondre Reddick (Antigonish, NS) who scored 28 points off the bench, along with eight rebounds.

Azaro Roker (Nassua, Bahamas) had a double-double night with 14 points and 10 rebounds. Tom Legallais (Cornwall, ON) and Avan Nava (Mississauga, ON) each contributed 12 points.

For the Reds, Masters game-high 34 points featured 5 for 7 from three-point range. Matur Maluach (Sydney, AUS) was the top rebounder with eight and also scored 16 points in the win.

The Reds will be back in exhibition action on Thursday, October 24th when they travel to Sackville for a game against Mount Allison.

The X-Men will be competing in their own Pizza Delight Invitational tournament on October 25th and 26th. They will Acadia in an 8:00 pm game Friday night, October 25th. Cape Breton and Dalhousie will play before them at 6:00 pm. The losers will meet in the consolation final Saturday at 6:00 pm, with the two winning teams tipping-off in the tournament championship game Saturday at 8:00 pm.
