X-Men lose close game to Capers

Sydney, NS – The Cape Breton Capers earned a hard-fought 78-73 home victory over the StFX X-Men on Thursday night at the Sullivan Fieldhouse.

The Capers were led by second year guard  Osman Omar (Mississauga, ON) with 27 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists. Paul Watson (Mississauga, ON) had another strong rebounding game with 12 rebounds to go along with his 9 points.

StFX received a double-double from Thomas Legallais with 14 points and 10 rebounds in the losing effort. Daniel Passey, Atik Gilao, Justin Andrew and Tristen Ross also scored in double digits. 

Turning point:  The game was tight all the way through with Cape Breton holding a small lead almost the entire way. The Capers biggest advantage came in the second quarter when they outscored the X-Men 23-17.

Individual Leaders:

  • Omar led all scorers with 27 points
  • Watson led all players with 12 rebounds
  • Watson also had a game-high 12 assists
  • Legallais drained three 3-pointers. 

News & Notes 

The Subway Player of the Game was CBU's Osman Omar.

The Capers improve their record to 8-10 with 24 points, and currently sit in fourth place, and have clinched a playoff spot. The X-Men fall to 6-12, with 20 points and are currently in fifth place. 

The Capers next game is Saturday, February 16th as they travel to Antigonish to again play StFX. Tip-off is at 8:00 pm at the StFX Oland Centre.
