Huskies remain undefeated with win over X-Men

HALIFAX, NS—The Saint Mary's Huskies defeated the visiting StFX X-Men 84-64 on Friday night from the Homburg Centre, remaining undefeated in AUS action with a 7-0 record.

Kemar Alleyne (Scarborough, ON) paced all scorers with 20 points for SMU, the USPORTS No. 5 ranked team in the country.

SMU took an early 19-11 lead after the first quarter, and extended their cushion to 38-26 at halftime as they outpaced the X-Men 19-15 in the second quarter.

Alleyne had nine points in the third quarter as both teams pushed the floor, with SMU outscoring StFX 24-23 in the frame to lead 62-49 after 30 minutes of play.

A 22-15 SMU fourth quarter saw the Huskies enjoy the 20-point final victory.

Justin Andrew (Hamilton, ON) lead all X-Men with 19 points and had 10 coming in the third quarter in the losing effort for StFX.

Thomas Legallais (Cornwall, ON) and Daniel Passley (Mississauga, ON) each scored 10 points for X, while Azaro Roker (Nassau, Bahamas) had nine and Atik Gilao (Brampton, ON) added eight off the bench.

With the loss, StFX falls to 3-4 in conference play.

Qyemah Gibson (Nassau, Bahamas) finished with 16 points in 23 minutes coming off the bench for SMU, while teammates Kordeiro James (Woodbridge, ON) scored 12, and Brent Martindale (Kingston, ON) had 13 points. Nico Brauner (Hettenhain, Germany) contributed 10 points and nine rebounds for the Huskies.

Both teams play next week as StFX will have a home-and-home series with Dalhousie, hosting them on Wednesday, January 9th, then travelling to Halifax for Friday, January 11th. Saint Mary's hosts UPEI on January 11th and 12th.
