Varsity Blues rally to beat X-Men

Toronto, ON - The University of Toronto Varsity Blues overcame a 16-point deficit to defeat the StFX X-Men 101-84 in pre-season action on Friday night at the Athletic Centre Sports Gym.

The X-Men got off to a quick start with a 26-13 after the first quarter. U of T rallied to bring it within five (44-39) at halftime, then a high-scoring third quarter saw the two teams deadlocked at 69-69 heading into the final frame. Toronto sealed the win by outscoring StFX 32-15 in the fourth quarter.

Varsity Blues guard Christopher Barrett notched 17 points and a game-high five assists, while rookie Inaki Alvarez also had 17 points on the night. Evan Shadkami had 16 points and Eli Mouyal tallying 15 points, while Daniel Johansson also hit double digits with 12 points and a team-high eight boards in the win.

For the X-Men, Justin Andrew scored a game-high 26 points and added five assists. Tristen Andrew netted 21, including five from three-pointer range. Azaro Roker had a double-double night with 14 points and 15 rebounds.

The X-Men continue on their exhibition road trip with a game Saturday night in Hamilton against McMaster. Tip-off is 7:00 pm EST.
