X-Men earn big road win over nationally ranked Tigers

Halifax, NS - In AUS men's basketball action at the Dalplex, the StFX X-Men upset the AUS first place and U SPORTS No. 8 ranked Dalhousie Tigers 91-64 in a big victory on the road. The X-Men avenged a loss to the same Tigers squad on Tuesday evening in Antigonish.

In the first quarter, both teams were pretty even to start as StFX held a 7-4 lead about four minutes in. After that, the X-Men went on a 7-0 run to take a 14-4 lead after eight minutes. The X-Men ended up with a 19-10 advantage heading into the second quarter.

The second frame saw the X-Men turn up the offensive pressure. But, Dalhousie would not go away lightly, as evidenced by the second quarter score being only 18-13 with two minutes left in the half. However, the X-Men kept on rolling and built up a 45-25 lead at halftime.

As the third quarter progressed, action tightened up again, with the score 8-8 after three minutes. But, the Tigers could not make any significant dent in the X-Men lead, resulting in the a 68-48 margin in favor of the X-Men after the 30 minutes of play.

In the fourth quarter, StFX was able to swing the momentum back into their favour and extended their lead, outscoring the Tigers 21-8 with about two minutes to go. Dalhousie couldn't answer and the X-Men got the big win on the road.

Julius Antoine (Vaughan, ON) led all scorers with 20 points. Subway Player of the Game Azaro Roker (Nassau, Bahamas) chipped in nine points, 11 rebounds, and five assists for the X-Men.

Xavier Ochu (Milton, ON) powered the Dalhousie offence with 17 points, while adding five boards. Sven Stammberger (Halifax, NS) contributed 15 points for the Tigers.

Both teams are back in action next Friday at 8:00 pm. The X-Men face the UNB Varsity Reds in Antigonish, while the Tigers next play the Cape Breton Capers in Sydney.
