Antigonish, NS— StFX X-Men basketball head coach Steve Konchalski is pleased to welcome Jaydan Smith to the X-Men program for the 2017-18 season.

The 6'1" combo guard is a native of Halifax, N.S. playing out of Citadel High School. Coach Konchalski comments, "Jaydan is a high-end recruit who has the skills to play both the shooting guard and point guard positions with his deep shooting range and ability to find his teammates in the open court." 

A community YMCA graduate (2005-2014), Smith won multiple provincial championships at the mini, bantam and midget levels. He was a 2015 national bronze medalist with the Nova Scotia U15 team where he was honored as a first team All-Canadian. Most recently he was a member of the 2016 Nova Scotia U17 national gold medalist squad. A high school all-star in 20125, Smith is a two-time Halifax Grammar School basketball tournament most valuable player.

Jayden already has a strong affinity to StFX University, having been a regular Xavier basketball summer participant, first attending as a three year old in 2002. His father Wade Smith, principal at Citadel HS, is an X-Men basketball alumnus, having played from 1986 to 1990 and being honored as a 1990 All-Canadian athlete. Jayden joins current X-Men Tristen Ross and Jason Hatch as second generation X-Men whose fathers played under Coach Konchalski.
