Halifax, NS – The U Sports No. 4 ranked Ottawa Gee-Gees booked their ticket to the championship game of the Rod and Joan Memorial Tournament with an 83-65 win over the StFX X-Men in the semifinals.
Jean Emmanuel Pierre-Charles had 21 points to lead the Gee-Gees in the win at the tournament hosted by the Dalhousie Tigers.
Ottawa controlled the pace for most of the game, opening up a 24-17 lead after the first quarter. The X-Men had a charge midway through the second quarter and outscored the Ontario squad 21-19 to bring the game to within five points at halftime as the Gee-Gees were up 43-38.
The Gee-Gees opened up their lead in the third quarter and never looked back to take the game 83-65.
Pierre-Charles had eight rebounds to along with his 21 points, while Caleb Agada had 15 points eight rebounds and 12 assists for Ottawa.
Kevin Bercy had a double-double night for the X-Men, shooting 7-9 from the court and 7-8 from the free point line, scoring 21 points and hauling down 10 rebounds. Cameron Walker had 16 points and seven rebounds, while Tristen Ross scored 13 off the bench, going 3-for-6 from three-point range.
With the win, Ottawa will move on to face the Saint Mary's Huskies in the championship final at 3:00 pm on Saturday. The Huskies earned a close 79-76 victory over the host Tigers in the other semifinal. StFX will take on Dalhousie in the consolation final for third place at 1:00 pm.
