X-Men take Axemen 84-69 in first game at Dalhousie Shoveller tourney

Halifax, NS - Daniel Passley scored 15 points off the bench to lead the StFX X-Men to an 84-69 win over the Acadia Axemen Thursday afternoon in the second quarter-final game of the Rod and Joan Memorial men's basketball tournament, hosted by the Dalhousie Tigers.

Acadia got out to an early 19-17 lead in the first quarter, but a 30-point second quarter put the X-Men in the lead and they never looked back. The blue and white were up 47-32 at halftime on their AUS opponent and held them off in the second half en route to the victory.

Passley went 8-10 from the floor and added three rebounds in his 13 minutes on the court. Kevin Bercy and Julius Antoine had 14 and 13 points each, respectively. Bercy led the X-Men with eight rebounds. Freshman forward Nick Russell and Cameron Walker each scored 11 points apiece for X.

Acadia's top performers were Ben Miller and Nick De Palma with 15 and 13 points respectively. Trevor Grant chipped in another 12 and hauled down five rebounds.

With the win, StFX advances to the first semifinal game on Friday night at 6pm to take on the Ottawa GeeGees, while Acadia will play UPEI in consolation action at 1pm.
