ST. CATHARINES, ON - The Brock University men's basketball team defeated St. Francis Xavier by a score of 83-76 in CIS exhibition action Thursday night at the Bob Davis Gymnasium.

The Badgers had four players in double figures led by Cassidy Ryan (Mississauga, ON) who finished with 18 points in 16 minutes off the bench.

Ryan Bennett (Toronto, ON) contributed with 12 points while Johneil Simpson (Toronto, ON) and Dani Elgadi (Waterloo, ON) chipped in with 11 and 10 points respectively. Rookie Daniel Cayer (Montreal, QC) led all players with 12 rebounds while collecting seven points and seven assists.

Leading St. Francis Xavier were Kevin Bercy (Kanata, ON) and Julius Antoine (Woodbridge, ON) who both recorded 18 points each. Also in double digits were Tristen Ross (Truro, NS) with 16 points and Akil Charles (Glenn Dale, MD) with 11.

For the game, The Badgers shot 38.3% from the field (31-for-81) and were 6-for-22 (27.3%) from beyond the arc and 15-for-23 (65.2%) from the charity stripe. The XMen shot 46.6% (27-for-58) from the field and 23.5% (4-for-17) from three-point range and 58.1% (18-for-31) from the free throw line.

The Badgers held a 33-26 advantage at halftime.

Brock will now take part in the Concordia Stingers Tournament and will go up against Cape Breton (Oct. 7), Nipissing (Oct. 8) and Concordia (Oct. 9). 

The X-Men will play exhibition games against Ryerson (Oct. 7) and McMaster (Oct. 8).
