Huskies down X-Men 82-69

Halifax, NS - The Saint Mary's Huskies defeated the St. Francis Xavier X-Men 82-69 in AUS men's basketball action Saturday afternoon at the Scotiabank Centre as part of the Varsity Showdown event.

StFX jumped out to an early advantage, leading 19-13 after one quarter. Saint Mary's got back into the game by taking the second quarter 22-13 to establish a 35-32 lead at the half.

The Huskies upped that lead to 54-47 after three quarters, then outscored the X-Men 28-22 in the fourth quarter to seal the win. 

Subway player of the game Brian Rouse (Mississauga, ON) led the Huskies with 22 points. Theon Reefer (Toronto, ON) scored 17 points, while Osman Barrie (Ottawa, ON) had a double-double game with 13 points and 15 rebounds to pace the Huskies' offence.

Kemar Alleyne (Scarborough, ON) rounded things off with 13 points and three steals to anchor Saint Mary's on defense. Ryan Augustine (Toronto, ON) added nine points and four rebounds.  

X-Men center Cameron Walker (Dallas, TX) led all scorers in the game with 23 points, along with five boards. Julius Antoine (Woodbridge, ON) scored 16 points and Alastair Cole (Pickering, ON) netted 12.

Walker added a block and Cameron Crieghtney (Toronto, ON) swiped three steals to anchor the StFX defence.

Both teams are back in action this upcoming Friday and Saturday in home doubleheaders. Saint Mary's hosts the UNB Varsity Reds at 8:00 pm (Friday/Saturday), while the X-Men face the UPEI Panthers at 8 p.m. on Friday and 4 pm on Saturday.
