Sydney, NS – The StFX X-Men (0-3) are still looking their first victory of the AUS season after dropping a 98-87 game to the Cape Breton Capers (2-1) on Wednesday evening.
The Capers got out to a 25-18 advantage after the first quarter of play and increased their lead to 54-39 at halftime.
The X-Men came back to outscore the home team 27-20 in the third quarter but the Capers still held a 74-66 lead after 30 minutes of play. A 24-21 fourth quarter in favor of Cape Breton sealed the victory.
Leading the Capers in scoring was Meshack Lufile who netted a game-high 35 points. He had a double-double evening with 11 rebounds.
Kelson Devereaux scored 15 points and had five rebounds, while Seth Amoah added 10 points off the bench.
For the X-Men, Kevin Bercy scored 23 points and had eight rebounds and three steals. Julius Antoine netted 16 and added seven boards and five assists.
Cameron Walker scored 10 for the X-Men and Tristen Ross and Alastair Cole each scored 10 off the bench.
The X-Men return to host the Acadia Axewomen (1-1) Friday night in their home opener. Tip-off is 8:00 pm at the StFX Oland Centre.
