X-Men claim bronze with win over Nipissing at CBU tourney

Sydney, NS –The StFX X-Men wrapped up play at the Cape Breton Fall Classic pre-season exhibition tournament with a 94-81 victory over the Nipissing Lakers in the bronze medal game.

The X-Men finished the tournament with a 2-1 record over the past three days.

StFX opened the game against Nipissing on a 16-0 run and did not relinquish their lead for the remainder of the game.  They were up 48-35 at halftime on their OUA opponent.

Kevin Bercy and Julius Antoine each scored 20 points for the X-Men. Bercy added nine rebounds and nine assists.

Tyrel Edwards netted 15 points and had six boards while Cameron Walker scored 14 points. Tristen Ross added 10 and Akil Charles chipped nine points for the blue and white.

Leading the Lakers was Marcus Lewis with a game-high 32 points, along with 10 rebounds. Jordon Campbell scored 16 and Joey Puddister added 13.

With the win the X-Men finish third in the eight-team tournament.

With an overall record of 3-5, the X-Men wrap up pre-season play and look ahead to the start of the AUS regular season. They begin action on the road with a pair of games against UPEI on November 6th and 7th.

StFX will play their home opener on Friday, November 13th when they host Acadia at 8:00 pm.
