Strong 4th quarter powers X-Men to victory over Toronto

Toronto, ON – The StFX X-Men opened up pre-season exhibition play with a 91-75 victory over the Toronto Varsity Blues Thursday evening at Goldring Centre for High Performance Sport.

Leading 62-60 after three quarters of play, the visiting X-Men exploded to outscore the Varsity Blues 29-15 in the fourth quarter to earn the victory.

StFX held slim leads of 17-16 and 42-40 after the first and second quarters.

The X-Men were led by third year forward Kevin Bercy (Kanata, ON), who totaled 16 points and eight rebounds, while Cameron Walker (Dallas, TX) also had 16 points on the night, along with four boards.

Both Julius Antoine (Woodbridge, ON) and Tristen Ross (Truro, NS) notched 13 points in the victory. Ross was 3 for 4 from three-point range. Davonte Provo (East Preston, NS) chipped in nine points.

Miroslav Jaksic led Toronto with 16 points, six boards and three blocks, while Daniel Johansson had 12 points and seven rebounds. Chase Ruttenberg also had 12 points and five boards, with Sage Usher adding 11 points in the loss.

The X-Men take to the court again Friday night when they will play the York Lions. Saturday afternoon they are off to Guelph to face the Gryphons to wrap up their Ontario exhibition swing.
