X-Men fall to Huskies

Antigonish, NS - The StFX X-Men dropped a 96-86 decision to the Saint Mary's Huskies in AUS basketball action Friday night at Oland Centre in Antigonish. The loss snapped a four game winning streak.

The visitors outscored the X-Men 31 to 22 in the fourth quarter to seal the win.

"We didn't execute down the stretch," X-Men forward Shane Coupland said after the game. "We lost some of our assignments and gave up too much on defense."

Theon Reefer led the Huskies with a game-high 26 points, four rebounds, three assists and three steals. The Subway player of the game had an impressive second half where he scored 22 of his total points.

Guard Boyd Vassell chipped in 20 points, along with seven rebounds, five assists and one steal. Forward Harry Ezenibe had a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds.

Brian Rouse and Marquis Clayton scored in double figures with 16 and 11 points, respectively.
Fifth-year senior guard Will Donkoh led the X-Men with 22 points, four rebounds, four steals and one assist.

Kevin Bercy, with 13 points and 11 rebounds, contributed a double-double, while fellow freshman forward Cameron Walker added 10 points, six rebounds and one steal.

Rookie point guard Jameel Williamson collected 11 points, three rebounds, four assists and four steals.

The X-Men got out to an early 21-14 lead after the first quarter and were up 38-37 at halftime.

The Huskies pulled ahead with a slim 65-64 lead after three quarters before opening up the offense in the final frame.

Saint Mary's will next face the Acadia Axemen in a four-point game on Wednesday, Feb. 5th in Wolfville, NS.

StFX also returns to action on Feb. 5th when they visit Sydney to face the rival Cape Breton University Capers. The X-Men will host the UNB Varsity Reds Saturday, Feb. 8 at Oland Centre, beginning at 6 p.m.
