Hoop X-Men perfect 3-0 at CBU Invitational

The StFX X-Men were undefeated at the Cape Breton University Capers Fall Fest Invitational exhibition basketball tournament over the weekend at Centre 200 in Sydney.
 
Sunday afternoon, the X-Men wrapped up a 3-0 record with a 93-91 win over the Holland College Hurricanes.
 
Post player Rod Madera led the blue and white with a career-high 25 points, while adding nine rebounds and one steal.
 
Fifth-year guard Will Donkoh scored 21 points, while chipping in three rebounds, two assists and three steals.
 
Fellow veteran guard Jordan Clarke also hit double figures with 18 points, including nine out of 10 free throws, while adding nine rebounds, three assists and three steals.
 
The X-Men shot 50 per cent from the field, while hitting 80 per cent of their free throws.
 
Alvin Parker and Jake Kendrick led the Hurricanes with 19 points apiece.
 
StFX opened the tournament with a high-scoring 99-81 win over the UPEI Panthers.
 
Donkoh led five X-Men in double figures with 22 points, while adding two rebounds, two assists and three steals.
 
Madera added 17, while Clarke chipped in 12 points.
 
Julius Antoine and Shane Coupland contributed 11 and 10 points, respectively.
 
Clarke and Madera led the X-Men with eight rebounds each, while Coupland added seven.
 
Jameel Williamson, Julius Antoine and Temitayo Shittu collected five rebounds apiece.
 
Williamson led the X-Men with eight assists.
 
Lorenzo Parker and Deontay Smith led the Panthers with 20 and 18 points, respectively.
 
Saturday night, the X-Men edged the host Capers 73-66.
 
Clarke led the blue and white with 20 points – all in the second half – as four X-Men hit double digits in scoring. He added six rebounds and four steals, while going eight-for-10 from the floor, including three-for-four from the three-point line.
 
Donkoh contributed 19 points, six steals, three rebounds, two assists and one blocked shot.
 
Freshman post player Cameron Walker added 13 points, seven rebounds, one assist and one steal.
 
Madera added 10 points, four rebounds and two assists.
 
Meshack Lufile, with 18, and Arild Geugjes (14) led the Capers in scoring.
 
Both the X-Men and Acadia Axemen finished the round-robin tournament with 3-0 records. By virtue of a better point spread differential, Acadia captured the championship.
 
The X-Men return to action Wednesday, Nov. 6, when they host the rival Capers to open the AUS regular season.
 
Tip-off is scheduled for 8 p.m. at Oland Centre.
