Tigers edge X-Men in AUS basketball play
The Dalhousie Tigers defeated the CIS No. 4 StFX X-Men 79-68 in AUS basketball action Sunday afternoon.
The blue and white held a three-point scoring advantage in the final ten minutes, but could not rally from a 60-46 deficit after three quarters at Dalplex in Halifax.
Robert Nortmann of the Tigers recorded a double-double in the win – 21 points and 14 rebounds, including eight off the offensive glass. The Tigers outrebounded the X-Men 50-43, including corralling 25 on the offensive end.
William Yengue and Casey Fox scored 17 and 16 points, respectively, for Dalhousie who held a 40-35 half-time lead.
Terry Thomas led three X-Men in double digits with 17 points. He added four rebounds, three assists and two steals in the losing effort.
Will Donkoh and Jeremy Dunn recorded 13 and 11 points, respectively. Dunn added seven rebounds, while point guard Tyrell Vernon contributed six points, seven assists and three steals.
Rodrigo Madera and Marquis Clayton added eight points apiece off the bench.
The X-Men shot 53 percent (8-for-15) from the foul line.
With the loss, the blue and white drop to 9-3 for 22 points in the AUS regular season standings. They are tied for third place with the Cape Breton University Capers.
The X-Men return to action this weekend with a road trip to Fredericton for a pair of games versus the seventh place UNB Varsity Reds (4-9).
