X-Men open Season on High Note
The X-Men basketball team won their season opener Sunday afternoon against the Saint Mary's Huskies 97-84. Christian 'T-Bear' Upshaw led the X-Men in scoring with 20 points. Alberto Rodriguez earned his first double-double of the regular season, scoring 17 points and grabbing 10 rebounds - nine of which were offensive.
Sundays game was a game of momentum shifts with both X and SMU having their fair share of them. After a tight first quarter the X-Men pulled away only to loose the lead and enter the half tied at 43 apiece.
The second half is when the X-Men put their stamp on the game outscoring SMU 27-16 in the 3rd quarter and pushing the lead to double-digits by the start of the fourth.
The entire starting unit for the X-Men scored in double figures compared to only three from SMU's roster. Joey Haywood was the leading scorer for the 0-2 Huskies with 27 points, while Jerome Smith and Tory Fassett had 16.
The X-Men next see action at home against Dalhousie Tigers Nov. 20th at 8:00 pm.
